VALA HOUSE

In her own words:

We asked Domoneque at the start of her journey why she wanted to be a writer and this is what she said:

I have always wanted to be a writer but I never thought I could be. I would write a few chapters for a prospective story but then erase it all, because it never seemed good enough or I would become shy when I had to ask one of my family members to read what I had written.

As a child I would read a story and think about the way I would have written it instead.  I would then re-write my version of the story in one of my journals.

As I grew older, I tried to write some fan fiction stories to try and better my writing skills but it never felt like it was enough, because the characters were already created, the story universe already planned out.

I wanted something unique, something that comes across as “me” but my country has limited offers that could help me better my writing skills.

I want to become an author so that I could give what so many authors gave to me through their books.

An adventure, an escape from reality, to live a few different lives instead of just one.

Writing is true magic –  it isn’t to make a rabbit disappear but rather to make you see things, feel things and be things that do not exist but you believe they do.

My family is also a major inspiration when it comes to my writing. They want to see me succeed and make a name for myself. I would like to accomplish that for myself and for my family.

Their circumstances weren’t easy when growing up and I know my sibling and I have it a lot easier than they ever did.

I would like to one day be able to take care of them the way they take care of us, and make their dreams come true as I strive towards mine

Canada Jackson on Domoneque:

When Meg and I created Vala House Publishing it was less about earning a living and more about meeting Indie’s with the same heart that we have and helping them to succeed. The ones who grew up living in stories and imagining worlds unlike their own. The ones who wrote stories and hid them away because they were too shy to set them free.

When we met Domoneque we knew immediately that we wanted her to be part of our Valahouse Author Team.

We knew she was a talented writer. We knew we would be working with somebody who would meet us half way in terms of work ethic and the desire to succeed, but what we didn’t realise was that we were working with somebody who personifies the words “humble, gentle and sweet”

Domoneque has a light inside of her that we hope will continue to grow and shine, affecting all those around her with the same spirit of “Ubuntu” that she both loves and encourages to all those around her.
